Single Release: Heartstrings {Citadel}

‘Heartstrings’ by Citadel   (Philadelphia, PA)

As lovely as an introduction can be to a song, ‘Heartstrings‘ the latest single by Philly indie-poppers Citadel opens in a familiar and welcoming way. Deliberately over-produced drums with delicate piano under the opening melody, this first thirty seconds could land them song placements for anything from the next Ryan Gosling film to a Toyota commercial. Incredibly accessible and clever in style, the band never strays from their garage pop form yet has still produced a song catchy and unique with all the different layers of attitude throughout. Definitely take a minute to check out the interesting and fitting video they have to go with the single here. Dig it. @thinknotsleep

Video Release: Overloaded {Lil Kids}

A few days back, Lil Kids hit us with their new album “to collect digital dust” as frontman Adam Kane said via Facebook.  It was titled- Dead Ass.  Here’s the video of the first track, ‘Overloaded’.  It’s exactly what I’ve come to ecpect from them; completely silly.  @Dingusonmusic

Peaches

861314_10151310785401009_1325679672_oPeaches by Mission South   (Washington DC)

You may remember this band from a recent feature off their last EP, and frankly, if they keep dropping tracks like this we’re gonna need to start a weekly column just for them. ‘Peaches’ is the first single released from their new EP titled Migration Volume 2 that recently premiered on Relix with a super pro video to ice the cake.  Always dirty and deep in the pocket, Mission South are gimmick free and genuine, this new single being a perfect example of the pop sensibility they are as fluent with as they are Allman blues jams. I’ll keep this short and sweet and let you focus on this fantastic song and video. @thinknotsleep

Live is Banana

268945_2206324314949_2126083_n‘Live is Banana’ by Andrea   (Paris, France)

Live is Banana.  ’Live is Banana’  God, I try so hard to bring you brand new artists gracing these front pages but throughout our quest we’ve created a list of the DIY poster-childrean and when they release something new, I can’t help myself- you need to know.  Trust me young Padawan- it’s a mix of the best.  The best of the best.  @Dingusonmusic

Wait

581635_466660393378217_1647827441_nWait by Lazyeyes   (Brooklyn, New York)

Lazyeyes, one of Brooklyn’s DIY staples, just released the music video for ‘Wait‘- an animated exploration that traverses the universe in search of cartoon-like adventure that would/could or couldn’t be taken for far more.  The implanted imagery fixates on our somewhat goofy protagonist as he surfs through outer space in search of his own cosmic trip.  Connect the video to whatever cultural reference of the last half century you’d like, but it’s my personal opinion that what’s really going on is a more liberated, unique expression; audio taking form.  In the end, it all pays off as guitars swell for the finale and the dust settles begging for patience in the title line .  @Dingusonmusic

Fine Line

I woke up this morning to a nice little email from Le Trouble, a band whose album I reviewed some months ago. In the email they included the link to their new video for ‘Fine Line’, a single off their album Reality StrikesI can’t stop watching and I can’t stop listening. This song is so heartbreakingly sweet, it’s enough to make you stop you dead in your tracks as you focus and get lost in a matter of minutes. It was truly an honor to have this as my afternoon soundtrack, I have a feeling I will lose many afternoons listening to this. That’s just a sacrifice I’m willing to take. @LeahLovecat

No Recent Activity

‘No Recent Activity’ by Sneer   (Portland, Oregon)

I forgot to eat this morning. I’ll do that soon. I was too busy pulling my hair out over how catchy this is:

And an amazing video to boot. As far as I can tell, this is the first video single by what seems to be a new project. Their tumblr is hilarious and features original pics and vids. With a visual element equally as important as the music, this is a group for the internet age. Sneer, you have my blessing and my fandom. You can buy the track on their bandcamp for a buck.  @L0pat0

Video Premier: Slacks and Slippers

Mike Lande, front-man and birthmother of New York rock outfit Happy Lives, is a veteran to the DIY scene.  Having come up the right way, scraping shows together since adolescence for enthused friends and fans, his latest project which draws on industrial influences is settling in for the experiment.  Now, the young visionary presents the first official Happy Lives video, a visual collage of the groups practice space, an honest peer into the creativity machine.  @Dingusonmusic

Blah Blah Woof Woof

Sundowner by Dances   (Brooklyn, New York)

I’ve been a huge fan of Dances for quite some time now and when I saw that they released a video for ‘Blah Blah Woof Woof’, I was highly intrigued. I have spoken of their EP, Sundowner, in the past so I don’t really want to go too deep into that. I will tell you that it’s amazing and you must download it, however. Getting back on topic, ‘Blah Blah Woof Woof’ definitely had my attention. It’s one minute of garage rock combined with an awkwardly incredible video. The now 3-piece band messing around with work out equipment was something I found very clever. I feel like I know the band or at least I want to know them, grab a drink with them, go to their shows. I love it when bands release videos like this for the very reason that it genuinely makes you feel those things. Dances have done it right, they roped me in and I certainly don’t want to untie the knot. @LeahLovecat
