Soulbound V.12

Soulbound Volume Twelve by Various Artists   (New York, New York) *

Marking the one year anniversary of our free DIY compilation series, Soulbound Volume Twelve includes some of our very favorites among some of the newest gems from the community.  With tracks from veterans Basic Printer, Kick Snare Leave and Seabiscuit, the compilation is one of my personal favorites.  With more songs fit to be called “singles” than ever before, we at the Dingus office are sure you’ll love it.  The best part?  It’s completely free courtesy of all the talented musicians involved.  Head to our Bandcamp page and get the latest for your late summer travels.  [Free Download]  @Dingusonmusic

Kid

‘Kid’ by Teddy   (Jersey City, New Jersey) *

Teddy, the Jersey-based garageband project, takes a unique melody dynamic and centralizes it. Framed by honest, integral instrumentation, ‘Kid‘ creates depth within minimalism, properly arranging individual lines of musical thought into one coherent composition that excites the listener, consumed within an unending cycle of repetitive nonsense.  Happy July 4th.  [Free Download]  @Dingusonmusic

Alfonso Velez

If there’s a New York city rock guru alive and well these days, it’s certainly Alfonso Velez.  Perfectly pacing his live performances, when Velez takes the stage, nothing feels more natural.  Rockwood Music Hall is his Meadowlands, so come out on March 10th and be a part of one of the warmest shows in town.  Get the details from the omniscient facebook.

Teddy (Sunday’s Best)

‘Teddy’ by Alfonso Velez   (February 9, 2011)

Last week we posted the live version of this song, which is nearly a complete renovation of the original.  Well, here it is, the studio recording.  ’Teddy’ is one of our favorite tracks.  It hits a wide range of emotional highs and lows while never breaking melody.  From moments containing only piano and vocals to entire string arrangements, this bright Velez track is the highlight of the album by only a hair.

Teddy

‘Teddy’ live by Alfonso Velez   (February 10, 2011)

‘Teddy’ is by far one of my favorite tracks off the self-titled Alfonso Velez album and now you can pick up all of the live recordings on his bandcamp.  On this track in particular, Velez answers his live crowd with a dynamically diverse take on one of his most epic tracks.  Playing without his string section, Alfonso somehow manages to create the same monumental effects.

‘Notice’ by Teddy   (June 4, 2011) Honestly one of the best songs I’ve heard anywhere.  Flawless spacing, dynamic shifting.  Recorded through built in mics on Garage Band.  Congrats.
