Psychotic Teenage Supermodels

1174178518-1Psychotic Teenage Supermodels by Sugarpuss   (Perth, Washington)

Normally I would never do this, but in this instance these self stated album descriptions are far too befitting. “Sugarpuss’s debut EP is a small collection of songs that vary so much from each other in style, subject, and mood that it closely mirrors the unpredictable lava flow of chemicals that occur in the mind of the common psychotic teen:” ‘Masquerade‘, lingers hard, from its western hipster pop verse to its otherworldly smooth sultry chorus, come to Brooklyn, Now, Please? @dingusrecords

We All Die Young

artworks-000040825000-sij81x-t500x500We All Die Young by Zorch   (Austin, TX)

Upbeat and heavy on the synth, ‘We All Die Young’ is a very ear catching single coming from Austin experimental duo Zorch off their upcoming new album titled Zzoorrcchh. Ambient, spacey vocal production and keyboard riffs over heavy drumming makes their sound very unique and demands more than one listen to fully digest it. A little more post-punk electronica than I would generally gravitate towards but I was intrigued to say the least when I discovered it streaming on Hype Machine. Recently picked up by Sargent House, home to Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Fang Island and more, we’ll be seeing a lot more of Zorch in 2013. @thinknotsleep

Magic Hour

1530706416-1Magic Hour by The Gnarwaals   (Chicago, Illinois)

The Gnarwaals synthy punk is different from the norm and is embraced effortlessly by the band with the amusing name.  Magic Hour is the type of EP you reserve for the night, preferably for late night driving. I can imagine the light beaming off the street as you drive on quiet streets. You feel like you’re in your own little world with a soundtrack of your very own. It’s a simple pleasure I hope never loses it’s luster. @LeahLovecat

Toumrakata

Toumrakata by TÉHESSÉ   (Lyon, France)

Soulful and jazz-infused, the Toumrakata EP takes a couple of unexpected, but appreciated turns. Anglophone lyrics benefit from the accents of the male and female vocalists. The melodies and rhythms are simple. The synth is unabashedly synth-y. This is a Daylight Savings Time play–put it on when it is still early, but it’s already dark out. @AshleyCanino

Golden Chain

Golden Chain by Fotoshop   (Finland)

I find myself hypnotized by Fotoshop. ‘Golden Chain‘ is a song that has a way of transporting you between different colors and scenes. I see myself wandering the city streets at twilight, just before people start to wake, Fotoshop echoing through my ears. Even though I’m just picturing this in my head, it’s so vivid and real that I am starting to believe it already happened. I’ve talked myself into a memory that I have yet to make, and it’s quite a pleasant moment. It’s a moment fueled by a Finnish electro-pop band. @LeahLovecat

Step Out

Step Out by Racket Club   (September 27, 2011)

Step Out‘ is a very simple track and that’s what makes it so appealing. It a keeps it’s consistency and never becomes over-thought. It’s a sweet and genuine pop song that never succumbs to an excess of synth or vocals. It makes me believe that not everything has to be doused in extravagance. Racket Club prove the formula that simplicity equals beauty. It’s a forgotten concept but I would love it if everyone would begin to recognize it’s significance. I have listened to  ’Step Out’ quite a few times by this point and I’m finding myself enjoying it more with every repeat. Lovecat

Mimic

Mimic by Cold Blue Kid

Emotionally charged dream pop. That is what I would define Cold Blue Kid’s, Mimic, as being. It’s very atmospheric and vivid. Each song radiates a glimmer that is absolutely mesmerizing. A treat echoing from the streets of Chicago. Lovecat

Something Meaningful EP

Something Meaningfull EP by Something Meaningful   (July 27, 2011)

In true dream pop style, Something Meaningful presents an EP packed with endearing synths, drawn out vocals and positively transforming beats.  The sound quality: beautiful.  The songwriting: finely on point.  The lyrics: sharp as a tack playing off the everyday banality of human existence.  Leaving this writer wondering… what is the point?

Light

Light by My Own Solar System   (May 18, 2011)

Light begins with a piano line that could easily take the place for some of the most dramatic Donnie Darco moments only to open up for a refreshing electronica splash of drums and synth.  You may feel distant at times, which I believe to be the point of this download but you only have to remind yourself, yes this is planet Earth, no, I am not alone.  If dramatic synth music is your thing, then MYOSS is your thing.
