Welcome to NO MORE LOVE

NOMORELOVE-TEMP500It’s Spring.  Dingus is on a crash course of internal improvement and now we’re here to present to the second in our now repeating show series, No More Love.  For nearly two years we’ve hosted twenty-nine events, completely free for our fans; now it’s time to step it up.  Get ready for an art show from the Freesnacks Collective and performances from Napoleon, The Harmonica Lewinskies, Sons of an Illustrious Father, Lexie Roth and Nine Violet.  We’ll be wishing a safe and successful journey to the SOAIF summer tour and digging deep into our pockets to provide you with a revamped bar and new installation art for the main concert space at Freecandy.  Come on out and support the bands- then black out and forget the night ever happened… until next time.  Don’t forget to RSVP on our facebook event page so we know how much booze to buy for you crazy kids. Heeney Gets Naked for the Fans

photo

The other night, Mark Fletcher and Max Kagan from Heeney got naked on stage at their show.  Shocking? Probably not for these two if you know them well but I’m sure there were some slack jaws in the audience.  The band cultivates a punk rock image that can be traced through their entire existence- right down to… getting naked for the better part of a set.  It’s only upward on the intensity scale from here, it wont be long before we’re all having shit flung at us.  @Dingusonmusic

Show Photos (April 19)

"Untitled""Untitled"

On April 19th we had an epic show over on our home turf at Freecandy.  The line up was composed of The Gradients, Lil Kids, Napoleon, Ghost Pal and Happy Lives.  1.21 Gigawatts, one of Brooklyn’s most grassroots publications, organized a fine arts show for the gallery space and all was swell.  Traditionally, we got fucked up and had an amazing time.  Thank got nobody got knocked out this time.  Emotions run high.  And now for some photos from Adhat Campos.  @Dingusonmusic

Shows I’ve Been To: Wyldlife @ Maxwells

IMG_20130427_002654

Having just released their latest album, Wyldlife played at Maxwells to celebrate and introduce their fine new tracks. I wasn’t about to miss this one. For those who have never seen Wyldlife play live, let me explain to you what it’s like: it’s high energy, a lot of jumping and sweating and most important, a lot of great music. Their album release show was no different. As soon as the band took the stage in front of a packed house, Dangerous Dave steps up to the mic and states “this is our new album”. Without missing a beat the band starts playing track 1, ‘The Right!’. After that it was one after the other, track by track, exactly how it reads on the back of the album sleeve.

Their songs are fast and come at you even faster. You have to be ready. You have to be ready to possibly get your foot stomped on or get pushed backwards and forwards. Not at all in an aggressive way but more in a “hey, we’re all friends here, let’s dance.” By the end of the night your mouth hurts from smiling and laughing so much, seriously, it’s all in good fun. With the crowd going wild with each song and the band started to engage their faithful audience. Samm and Spencer leaped into the crowd and got carried by the sea of people shouting out their lyrics. I always get nervous when they do that because I don’t want to see them hit the ground and smash their heads or more importantly, their guitars. Of course they didn’t fall and the crowd sent them safely (debatable) back to the stage.

With the sweat dripping down my face and my hair a total mess, the boys finished playing The Time Has Come To Rock And Roll in it’s entirety. However, we weren’t done with them. We wanted more and wouldn’t be satisfied until we got another song out of our rock and roll heroes. They obliged and played ‘City Of Inbreds’, a track off their first album. Every single person in the room sang at the top of their lungs and ate up every last second to fulfill their need for rock music. As the night ended and I made my way home, I couldn’t help but smile and replay the night in my head. Rock and roll isn’t dead, it’s very much alive and it’s waiting for you to listen. @LeahLovecat

4/20 was my birthday so the night before we had a party at Freecandy (thanks dudes).  It was a lot of fun and I’d thank you all for coming but somewhere in between being body slammed by by Adam Kane and the fourth bottle of Jameson I think I blacked out.  Jim Testa took some photos (like the one above. and below.) And we’re waiting on our own photographers to get us theirs.  Check back with us at the end of the week.  It was awesome of you to come out.  And to The Gradients, Lil Kids, Napoleon, Ghost Pal and Happy Lives- a sincere thank you- it was the perfect Birthday.  @Dingusonmusic

TONIGHT IS OUR SPRING SHOW

1BREAKING NEWS-spring show

*IMG_3693

Today I sit here.  It is noon.  Sasha Geffen is landing from Chicago and Freecandy is gearing up. In twelve hours- with a joint in hand, I will turn twenty four. Today, tonight we re-invent events.  We bring back the Blue Blood and Fresh Arrest records for those who missed the early days.  The days when a man asked not what his band could do for him, but what he could do for his band.  But least important of all is the fact that I’ve been putting one foot in front of the other for twenty four short years.  Short they are, when you do what you love- and goddamn do I love Dingus and all it stands for in audio culture.

Tonight we pay our respects to some of the greats- pioneers; talent filled faces that pour their hearts into your earbuds so that morning commute, that long drive, that dark night is consoled.  God Save MCFK.  God save us all.  This one’s for the bands busting out new material: The Gradients, Ghost Pal, Happy Lives, Lil Kids, & Napoleon.  Some of my best friends, some of my best enemies- all drunk tonight, together, for the start of something new.

Renovations, Seasonal Parties & the Launch of our Label

BREAKING NEWS

Dingus Readers,

You truly are the best.  Those of you who’ve keep coming back to support the ubiquity of the DIY International Scene are faithful pioneers who have realized, before the rest of the world- that music produced in a bedroom, purely from the heart and without corporate intervention (ya know like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) brings you the same set of goosebumps, if not a better set, than the music that our conglomerates WANT, no, NEED you to hear for their profits.

We’d like to take a moment to announce that 1. our events are coming back, seasonally and HERE is our Spring one (bands/performance art/fine art/ cupcakes/ and that fun).  2. We’d like to announce the redesign of our site- including an online mag/print mag/events section/record label & recording studio (the design wil be premiered at the party).  And, 3. we’d like to announce that we here at the Dingus Team are about to give this our 100%- we aim to deliver and knock the teeth right out of Pitchfork’s little mouth. So expect the best.

Love, always and forever, @Dingusonmusic
