Dreams Come True Recap

We’d like to thank all who attended this weekends event, Dreams Come True.  We’d like to thanks the bands:  Porches, Nelsonvillains, Battle Ave, and Year on a Mountain, for putting on an amazing show.  And, we’d especially like to thank the ever-gracious Freecandy for welcoming us in with open arms for what will, hopefully, be the beginnings of a beautiful summer.  Here are a few pictures from the event, as promised.  Be sure to check out the next one. TONIGHT – DREAMS COME TRUE

Tonight, our beloved partnership with Meme Movement is about to pay up yet again for you show-goers.  Only two weeks fresh from our last showcase, the next event will feature headlining heroes, Porches supported by one of my personal favorite line-ups; a line up that I’ve had the distinct pleasure of booking.  Year on a Mountain, Viva Mayday, Battle Ave and Nelsonvillains will be striving for enlightenment from the time the doors open (at 830pm), assuring a night of powerful indie rock to help frame that dangerous ego.  Join us, as we break in one of Brooklyn’s finest venues, Freecandy, and remember, it’s always free admission before 930pm, at our shows ($5 after).  Make sure to invite your friends – don’t let live music die.  Dingus

Anatomy Magazine, Issue VII

Dingus is proud to announce our partnership with Anatomy Magazine.  Issue 7 is the first to feature a full spread from our blog.  Included in this months zine is a short article about the artistic integrity of NYC punk band Shapes along side several capsule reviews, done in the same style as always.  Help support the publication by purchasing a digital copy, today, and read my words.

*******We want to thank Anatomy for the opportunity, we deeply look forward to working on the next issue.*******

Dreams Come True [Sneak Peek]

I thought I’d offer my loyal readers an early look at the next show flyer from the Meme Movement.  Last show (Blue Blood), we had over 700 of the most beautiful people in the world show up to support their local DIY musicians.  The love was unparalleled and felt so deeply that we couldn’t wait to book the next one. The entire team, here at Dingus, has a crush on you, and only you.

Daddies (Sunday’s Best)

‘Daddies’ by Porches   (November 1, 2011)

Sung like some of the most heartbreaking Drive-by Truckers tracks, ‘Daddies’ is a slowed lament, especially when compared to the more frantic Porches tracks.  Finishing with an anti-anthem style choral hook, the track captures the essence of the album.

Scrap and Love Songs Revisited

Scrap and Love Songs Revisited by Porches   (November 1, 2011) *

Undoubtably, Scrap and Love Songs Revisited shows a more somber, more depressed and less emphatic Aaron Maine.  Slowing down and certainly touching on more serious issues than his previous two releases, this November release is a change from the fist pumping we’ve been doing around here.  Drawing on that saddened, twisted, ‘Jesus Christ was an Only Child’ type mentality, Maine becomes a singer, a poet in his own right while addressing a new aesthetic.

Rich Hands (Pumpkin Lover) (Sunday’s Best)

‘Rich Hands (Pumpkin Lover)’ by Porches   (July 1, 2011)

I don’t think I’ve ever played a song on repeat more than “Rich Hands (pumpkin lover)” by PORCHES. Lead singer, Aaron Maine, is a “thick-headed boy” who has seemingly simple wishes that tend to hit a soft spot in this helpless listener. “I don’t want to hold your hand/ I just want my best friend.” Human quality is something that is sometimes overlooked with the production of music these days. But with the absence of a click track, Maine takes his time performing the song and hits the nail on the head. I would even possibly call it perfect, but nothing’s quite perfect in this world.

Je T’aime (Best New Music)

Je T’aime by PORCHES   (July 1, 2011)

PORCHES’ second album comes right back from their first.  Giving us more of the familiar sound we’ve grown to love from this New York based band.  Without skipping a beat we get another installment of instant hits sure to rattle the body when sent through the proper speakers.  It’s hard to describe what makes PORCHES one of the most stand out acts that this blog has seen.  The secret lies beyond the aesthetic (something of a Wolf Parade, Modest Mouse combination), more deeply rooted within the song writing itself.  Aaron Maine not only has a way with words, but certainly a way with notes.  Worth all 500 cents, I highly recommend this download.

Count the Cash (Sunday’s Best)

‘Count the Cash’ by PORCHES  (January 26, 2011)

Yes, we are still listening to the first PORCHES album.  That’s because it’s great, filled with winners just like ‘Count the Cash’.  One hundred percent from the soul, in this writers opinion, PORCHES can do no wrong.  We’ll be looking at their newest release this week, stay tuned.

Summer of Ten (Best New Music)

Summer of Ten by PORCHES   (January 26, 2011)

Porches has a more recent record out that I’ll have to take the time to absorb but this previous one is one of the best on bandcamp.  There isn’t much else to say about it.  It’s as close to flawless as a record comes.
