The Metal Microscope [#10]

So since I’m now in charge of making my own cover photos for posts, I’m going to resort to pictures like the one above. I bought a really awesome Alien-Xenomorph sculpture made out of recycled motorcycle parts, and since Alien is so damn badass and appropriate for metal, I thought you guys might like it. I think the white light from my monitor adds a wet gleam to the Xenomorph’s noggin.  My expert lighter skills added a little light as well, perhaps you could pretend the Xenomorph is walking through a dystopian alien world with broken technology, a thorny cactus, and flame-lit corridors. I have three bands for you this week, Hibernation Index, Synaptical Glitch, and Shadowmind. Click on after the break to read more.

Stray

‘Stray’ by Kaika   (Trondheim, Norway) *

Stray‘ is by far one of the more powerful pieces of ambient we’ve posted here on Dingus.  The track is a heavy handed construction of noise that will bring the listener back to a Silent Hill-esque scene, crossed over with auditory suggestions of pain and struggle.  Spanning a bountiful eleven minutes and sixteen seconds, Laika’s debut bandcamp single could be the stage setting for nearly anything.  But, as shown, ambient done right requires skill- a safe measurement for the future of the group/producer.  ’Stray’ resolves peacefully, making musical narrative in harmony with values that I, personally, can agree with.  @Dingusonmusic

Tune Your Mind

‘Tune Your Mind’ by The Megaphonic Thrift   (Bergen, Norway)

Norwegian DIY certainly wouldn’t be described as plentiful.  With more releases seeming to come from less developed parts of the world, I feel more like I’m missing something.  What does come out seems unique, The Megaphonic Thrift puts the country on our map with a set of driving rock clouds that do more for musical progression than the average indie hit.  Within their aesthetic lies a solidarity that feels as impenetrable as a stone fortress.  [Free Download]  @Dingusonmusic
