Respect + Reverence by Mothers & Fathers (Dublin) *
Originally brought to me via the video below, Mothers & Fathers immediately drew my attention. It’s about a minute and thirty seconds into this album, with a positive attraction, that the cordial invitation is presented and you realize that Respect + Reverence is going to bring you plenty of beautiful moments. ’Mark of Cain’ retracts the gesture only to whip the attitude back out, with trip hop drums, in a bipolar dance that remains the crux of the piece. Gentle yet erratic, the album is a testament to the creative process that cross examines the duality of our species, back and forth and back and forth. ’Prodigal Son’ lives up to its name, and things get serious. Relax and take your time with this. It’s smart, sophisticated and most important of all- completely heartfelt. I’d compare it to Youth Lagoon, but it’s not quite that formulaic.
