Hermit Song

2627983467-1Hermit Song by morning…   (Ringwood, NJ)

Maybe it’s the opening count-in scream or the childish scribble on the cover art or the lyrical drop of the word “genitals” in the first verse but whatever your reasoning is, you shouldn’t take morning… too seriously. Their latest single ‘Hermit Song’ is a perfect example of what the band is about — intelligent, light-hearted, indie-pop with clever inclusion of jazz, math-rock and other Captain Beefhearty weirdness. In the past two years or so, they have become a staple of the New Jersey music scene, being part of an artist-organized group called Tiny Giant Artist Collective, and have pulled in enough press to be looked at as the “professional” band they are. This is a group of guys with an endless display of passion and humility and luckily for fans the end product is super fun, lively music to swing your head to. Check them out at upcoming shows in New Jersey and Brooklyn and name your price to pick up this great new single. @thinknotsleep

Beauty In Strangers

DE_BIS_cover_FINALBeauty In Strangers by Dear Eloise   (China)

There is something really sacred about this album. Beauty In Strangers math rock sound is completely captvating and equally beautiful. The Chinese duo that make up Dear Eloise have perfected a unique formula that sets them apart from the standard rock or shoegaze that seems to float around. This album is an intricate experiment gone right and we are very lucky to be reaping the benefits. @LeahLovecat

Wiltz

I don’t know guys, it’s indie acoustic music. It’s from Dublin, it’s kind of chill. It mostly suited my mood. The album cover is silly. I was curious what people were doing in Dublin recently if you hadn’t noticed. I really like 1:55 minutes and onward during Lizzie Brindley, it is large, but also some how from in the garage, Weezer and U2, which hurts my brain thoughts but there it is, so yeah. @TheSnakeRecords

Icarus

Pre-Columbians by Edelweiss   (Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania)

A handful of months ago I had the pleasure of seeing Edelweiss play live. For those of you who have never heard of Edelweiss, here are some quick facts:

  • Edelweiss are a ‘math rock’ band from Pennsylvania
  • Their debut EP is called Pre-Columbians
  • Each band member is under the age of 20
  • They have 6, 503 ‘likes’ on Facebook (I don’t know, I thought that was interesting.)

I’ll be honest, I rather enjoyed making that list. It reminded me of being in 10th grade biology, I can’t say I paid any attention but I’m pretty sure we made lists. I digress, let’s get back on topic. Edelweiss are one of the bands scheduled to play the Surprise Attack! Music Festival and they recently played an acoustic performance of their song ‘Icarus’ for The Village Basement. I’m almost jealous at how talented these boys are. At such a young age they are making strides. I definitely didn’t have that much ambition at the age of 17. Edelweiss are truly a band to watch. They are fresh, unique, everything you could hope for in a young band. Lovecat

Frozen Caravels

Frozen Caravels by Equations   (March 26, 2012)

When binding the line between inventive hardcore and cheesy emo it’s imperative to stay away from being classified to anything that a thesaurus might align with “whiny”.  Equations, without fail, let their guttural jerks dominate their bleeding hearts, splashing in waves of subgenre that keeps Frozen Caravels feeling fresh and nostalgic the entire way through.  Dingus
