Gold

‘Gold’ by Conner Youngblood   (Dallas, Texas) *

With real joy ‘Gold‘ by Conner Youngblood takes tectonics learned from The Postal Service and applies its own soothing aesthetic.  When you click back to repeat the track, which you will, the realization sinks in- you’ve come full circle.  And however potent the tracks layering constitution is, the ability insightfully reflect demonstrates not only a natural knack for song-writing but a true understanding of storytelling.  Because every song, even an instrumental is a narrative.  Youngblood has an earlier EP, Sketches pt. 1, which we will get around to reviewing.  [Free Download]  @Dingusonmusic

Drugs

Drugs by Gold   (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)

I don’t like to complain but when you work literally all day everyday, its hard not to. So when I come home I literally like to do nothing except sit down and write about some music for you fine people. My job becomes a whole lot easier when I find bands like Gold. The Calgary based band give off a shoegaze/ambient sound. Their single, ‘Drugs‘, is exactly what you would listen to after a long day, cross legged on your bedroom floor. Their sweet harmonies mixed with the punky guitars are enough to make your spine chill. Lovecat

Gold EP

Gold EP by D’Austerlitz   (January 1, 2011)

Initially making a heavy impression, the Gold EP turns itself around with cheerful, yet selfish guitars.  Suggesting imagery of self-satisfied resolution and mixing Foals-esque shouts with more distant vocal influences (and begging and borrowing from many others), D’Austerlitz delivers a catchy, nostalgic album.

Bigiwatt

Bigawatt by Bigiwatt   (May 21, 2011)

This simple, three track LP preview is a good introduction to artist Marisa Demarco’s work.  Bigiwatt is her personal solo project recorded at home and distributed online.  In reality, each song stands on its own as a single yet somehow, she manages to pull elements from Coco Rosie, M.I.A. and other female indies while keeping the sound all her own.
