Single Release: Light {Drenched Youth}

a2119897894_10‘Light’ by Drenched Youth   (Tempe, Arizona)

I mainly clicked on this song because the cat on the cover looks just like my roomie’s cat and I was intrigued as to what the accompanying music would sound like. I was very pleased. The song starts out with a tough guitar and fuzzed out vocals, not to forget the steady drum beat. It’s all that raunchy, surfy garage rock I have come to know and love. More importantly, its the stuff I’m here to introduce you to. [Free Download] @LeahLovecat

Chariot {Ruby Pins}

RUBY-PINS-608-300x294Chariot’ by Ruby Pins   (San Francisco, California)

Ruby Pins is the solo project of Grass Widow drummer Lillian Maring. Her years spent in the San Francisco garage rock band have taken their toll—Ruby Pins sounds like a Grass Widow side project while an individualistic flair. Maring has been writing the debut, self-titled album for the last three years and recorded it in Port Townsend, Washington, with just an SM58 mic. Given the locale, second single “Chariot” is appropriately isolated and introspective. @emily_wheeler

Single Release: Sun Fuzz {The Dirty Blossoms}

a4081319083_10‘Sun Fuzz’ by The Dirty Blossoms   (Vernon, California)

Sun Fuzz‘ is a quick, garage rock single from California based, The Dirty Blossoms. It’s a little love song mixed with rock and roll fuzz. The Dirty Blossoms keep it simple, there is no need to complicate the formula when it comes to garage rock. The more that gets thrown in, the more it loses its charm. So give it to us quick and don’t forget to make us dance. [Free Download] @LeahLovecat

Cool Ghouls

a2242544817_10Cool Ghouls by Cool Ghouls   (San Francisco, California)

I absolutely love this album. Cool Ghouls little 10 track gem has me swooning. Their vintage 1960′s sound has been made to sound fresh and distinct. So many bands try to do the whole “retro” thing but most don’t know how to give it their own flare. Not in this case. Though you can hear the influence, Cool Ghouls have modernized this sound and made it their own. To them, I tip my hat. @LeahLovecat

Common Feelings EP {Serfs}

a2499003440_10Common Feelings EP by Serfs   (Charlotte, North Carolina)

Serfs have a bratty, 90′s esque attitude. Like, that snobby garage rock you feel really cool listening to. Common Feelings gritty shoegaze sound shows a more darker side of upcoming summer releases. Its for those not so sunny days where you need a bit of angst. I’m sure you’ll have a few of those. [Free Download] @LeahLovecat

a2884125126_10‘Teen Dream’ by Beach Slut   (Canberra, Australia)

‘Teen Dream’ is exactly the type of song you want to hear int he summer. Its fast, beachy and just over two minutes long. The Australian band’s poppy sound psychs you up for a day of hazy lounging. Sun. Heat. Surf. It’s what summer is all about. @LeahLovecat

Kat Kong {Kat Kong}

a3760764463_10Kat Kong by Kat Kong   (Los Angeles, California)

Holy moly, the additude that’s coming out of this one is insane. Kat Kong’s self titled album comes with bite and handclaps, yelps and howls. What more could you ask for? You can dance and jump to the sweet and sour sounds of this boy/girl, boy/girl combo. Just remember to leave room for the extra rock and roll. @LeahLovecat

Single Release: Heartstrings {Citadel}

‘Heartstrings’ by Citadel   (Philadelphia, PA)

As lovely as an introduction can be to a song, ‘Heartstrings‘ the latest single by Philly indie-poppers Citadel opens in a familiar and welcoming way. Deliberately over-produced drums with delicate piano under the opening melody, this first thirty seconds could land them song placements for anything from the next Ryan Gosling film to a Toyota commercial. Incredibly accessible and clever in style, the band never strays from their garage pop form yet has still produced a song catchy and unique with all the different layers of attitude throughout. Definitely take a minute to check out the interesting and fitting video they have to go with the single here. Dig it. @thinknotsleep
