Welcome to NO MORE LOVE

NOMORELOVE-TEMP500It’s Spring.  Dingus is on a crash course of internal improvement and now we’re here to present to the second in our now repeating show series, No More Love.  For nearly two years we’ve hosted twenty-nine events, completely free for our fans; now it’s time to step it up.  Get ready for an art show from the Freesnacks Collective and performances from Napoleon, The Harmonica Lewinskies, Sons of an Illustrious Father, Lexie Roth and Nine Violet.  We’ll be wishing a safe and successful journey to the SOAIF summer tour and digging deep into our pockets to provide you with a revamped bar and new installation art for the main concert space at Freecandy.  Come on out and support the bands- then black out and forget the night ever happened… until next time.  Don’t forget to RSVP on our facebook event page so we know how much booze to buy for you crazy kids. Show Photos (April 19)

"Untitled""Untitled"

On April 19th we had an epic show over on our home turf at Freecandy.  The line up was composed of The Gradients, Lil Kids, Napoleon, Ghost Pal and Happy Lives.  1.21 Gigawatts, one of Brooklyn’s most grassroots publications, organized a fine arts show for the gallery space and all was swell.  Traditionally, we got fucked up and had an amazing time.  Thank got nobody got knocked out this time.  Emotions run high.  And now for some photos from Adhat Campos.  @Dingusonmusic

4/20 was my birthday so the night before we had a party at Freecandy (thanks dudes).  It was a lot of fun and I’d thank you all for coming but somewhere in between being body slammed by by Adam Kane and the fourth bottle of Jameson I think I blacked out.  Jim Testa took some photos (like the one above. and below.) And we’re waiting on our own photographers to get us theirs.  Check back with us at the end of the week.  It was awesome of you to come out.  And to The Gradients, Lil Kids, Napoleon, Ghost Pal and Happy Lives- a sincere thank you- it was the perfect Birthday.  @Dingusonmusic

TONIGHT IS OUR SPRING SHOW

1BREAKING NEWS-spring show

*IMG_3693

Today I sit here.  It is noon.  Sasha Geffen is landing from Chicago and Freecandy is gearing up. In twelve hours- with a joint in hand, I will turn twenty four. Today, tonight we re-invent events.  We bring back the Blue Blood and Fresh Arrest records for those who missed the early days.  The days when a man asked not what his band could do for him, but what he could do for his band.  But least important of all is the fact that I’ve been putting one foot in front of the other for twenty four short years.  Short they are, when you do what you love- and goddamn do I love Dingus and all it stands for in audio culture.

3287483639-1God Save MCFK by Ghost Pal   (Brooklyn, New York) *

Tonight we pay our respects to some of the greats- pioneers; talent filled faces that pour their hearts into your earbuds so that morning commute, that long drive, that dark night is consoled.  God Save MCFK.  God save us all.  This one’s for the bands busting out new material: The Gradients, Ghost Pal, Happy Lives, Lil Kids, & Napoleon.  Some of my best friends, some of my best enemies- all drunk tonight, together, for the start of something new.

BDAY

Tonight: UNITY/DIVISION (Free & Easy)

Lost lovers connect; lost friends, re-administer the inner-junction, the sanctity that draws a perpendicular through the headstrong attitude of CMJ and join us for our recovery parties this weekend.  Nice long relaxing sets, drinks provided by your favorite bartenders and who knows, maybe a nice long, and I mean long, walk on the beach.  Tonight at Freecandy, we lounge.  [Facebook Event]  @Dingusonmusic

Recap: Number 20

This past weekend we celebrated our twentieth free DIY event here in NYC with Dead Stars, Eastern Hollows, Happy Lives, Hubbell Mountain and Kings.  We’d like to thank the bands for playing, it’s always an extreme honor to have musicians work with us to put together these amazing events at no cost to the show-goer.  The morning of the show, Happy Lives lost their drummer to a UPS job- and maybe for the best, because later the same night the, now duo, put on a live performance that out shined all previous engagements with a lose creative energy that rallied the crowd.  The night rang true from the acoustic introduction provided by Kings through the powerful rock performance from Dead Stars.  Hubbell Mountain put on a show that, in this writers opinion, looks more and more professional with each passing set and Easter Hollows blessed the Dingus/Snake stage for the first time.  We’d like to thank the venue, Freecandy.  The space has been a second home for our blog and is proclaimed by many as one of the best new DIY spots in the city.  Dingus would also like to introduce our new show photographer, Adhat Sampos; enjoy the new photographic perspective. @Dingusonmusic

THE GOLDEN CALF (Free & Easy)

This friday night, join us at Freecandy for yet another free DIY show presented by ourselves and our friends over at The Snake Records.  We’ve been at it for a while and as things grow we are proud to bring you our continuous stream of live entertainment.  This time, come check out Napoleon who will be playing the headlining slot along with Carroll, The Great American Novel, Exitpost and the Newport Reds.  James Eggleston will be displaying a collection of painting in the gallery so come early, drink up, pass judgement and maybe, just maybe, purchase some art.  @Dingusonmusic

This is Not a Cult – A Free Show Tonight!

In continuation of our free live DIY show series, This is Not a Cult will commence tonight at 830 for those who traditionally join us for the pregame.  Bands will be taking the stage at 930.  With home field advantage, the Freecandy family will be teaming up with the Mama Coco’s dream bill to host a show that the The New York Times is sure to call “One of the most important DIY events in contemporary music history.”  Officially billed as The Harmonica Lewinskies Record Release, be sure to look for hard copies of Octopus Wall Street, an album that will rub you in all the right places.  But, let’s not downplay the rest of the line-up because from start to finish, tomorrow night will be a profession of faith.  Sons of an Illustrious Father, Ghost Pal, The Great American Novel and Nina Violet have all rallied for the event, ready to bring you their best.  Our shows are always free; what better way to spend your Friday night than seeing some of the finest talent, seeded grown and plucked from your own backyard along side a shot of whiskey and a beer.  [Facebook Event]  @Dingusonmusic

+ Writer Needed:  Daily album reviews have been slow for the past month because increasing show activity.  Dingus is looking for a talented writer interested in the emerging DIY music scene to join the family and post daily.  All interested parties send appropriate material to Mirandaonmusic at gmail for consideration.

+ Upcoming Reviews:  You might want to check a few things out before we are able to get around to actually putting our finger on some formal thoughts:  a new Ghost Pal single, the first from their upcoming (concept?) album Nathan Jones is Dead.  And, the second volume of the Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen compilation series.

Back in Brooklyn / Nowhere, NY

As Keats once said, “this is mothafuckin Brooklyn yo-”. Indonesia was amazing, but it’s always a treat to step back on that New York City soil, breathe that New York City air.  I’m officially back on duty, and very jet lagged.  So please pardon any incoming incoherence as I break fresh ground on a long list of bookmarked Bandcamps I’ve been meaning to squelch.

I’ll also take this opportunity to point out that we’re hosting Australia’s Post Paint tomorrow night at Freecandy with The Snake and Mavy Entertainment.  The night is completely free, but bring your ID’s.  (PS- Happy Lives is playing now and there’s a chance Il Abanico will be gracing us with their acoustic presence; rumors, rumors.)  Dingus
