This is something beautifully alluring about The Balcony Stars’ single, ‘The Butterfly Girl‘. The name alone leaves you with a little sense of wonder and the visual aspect, the cover, makes your imagination run even more wild. Shoegazy rock and roll is what we have here and its laced with some late night starlight and early morning haze. It’s a song you lay in bed listening to until the moment you have to force yourself to star your day and its there for you when you need to unwind. The Balcony Stars have something special on their hands, something very special. @LeahLovecat

The song titles ‘Lisa’ tells the ever relatable story about meeting someone who turns out to only be not what you though or expected. Just when I thought I was going to call it a night, I came across Antics. This is an album. Wrapped up in jangly guitars, indelible guitars and slightly fuzzed vocals, each track has you captivated and you keep your ear to your speakers, for you don’t want to miss a second of it. Halfling EP

I was surprised to find a group like this relatively unknown in my city. The Sifters are a trio from New York state that bring together world music, pop, and indie-folk to create an eclectic sound not commonly heard in the DIY scene, simply because the arrangements are just more intelligent than we’re used to hearing at our local Brooklyn haunts. A band like this could be good to keep all these buzz bands in check because they make it clear how totally possible it is to release well-produced and written music independently. Although they certainly wear their influences way out on their sleeves (Grizzly Bear, Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens), this is a group with an unquenchable thirst and undoubtedly will progress towards their own sound in due time. I’d be very surprised if I don’t start seeing this name around town more as people get hip to what The Sifters have to offer. Now go download this 8 song album for FREE! Waking up a little bit past my usual time had me in a frenzy. I quickly realized what I had done and shot out of bed. With my mind going from zero to seventy in two seconds, I knew I needed something that would bring me back to normal. Enter: Sister Crystals. With their debut LP set for release this Spring, the Chicago based dream pop outfit have released ‘For So Long‘ as their single.
