Families by Ben Lear (October 22, 2010)
Ben Lear’s first bandcamp release proves to be as, if not more rewarding than his most recent work, Lillian: A Folk Opera (another impeccable album). It’s slightly more catchy (which only means it’s more structured) and slightly more digestible (in length) than Lillian, but there’s something beautiful about this simplicity. The vocals feel far more raw, in a Neil Young sort of way and the album, overall, sings an honest tune poetically and melodically.
