Creatures

3485694813-1Creatures by El Toro!   (Liverpool, England)

Creatures are one part surf, one part garage and three parts rock. Does that make sense? If it doesn’t then try to think a little less. Creatures is full of fast pace numbers guaranteed to spice up your evening. Who doesn’t love a good rock song? It’s albums like this that makes me remember that there is a ray of hope out there for the future of music. [Free Download@LeahLovecat

Mothers Against Bacon

3765368786-1Mothers Against Bacon by The Cakes   (United Kingdom)

Mothers Against Bacon certainly surprised me. With an album name that is kind of silly, The Cakes give me exactly what I want from a UK band, or any band for that matter. Their indie rock sound, which reminds me of one of my favorite underrated bands, Boy Kill Boy, is dance worthy and polished. You can tell that the time was spent on making this album sound flawless. It’s moments like this that I was I could fly myself out to see any band I desire. Until that day, I guess I have the internet. @LeahLovecat

Lemonade EP

Lemonade EP by Tyrannosaurus Dead   (Brighton, England)

‘Misery Guts’ is on the B-side of Tyrannosaurus Dead’s Lemonade EP but it turned out to be my favorite track off the entire EP. Funny how that works out. Tyrannosaurus Dead are a Brighton based grunge/pop band with noisy tracks, sure enough to wake your neighbors when you’re blasting it at midnight. I like how it opens into this sweeping whirlwind of guitars and then the male/female vocals perfectly sync up. It comes pretty quickly, so open your ears and open your windows, you and your neighbors are in for a treat. @LeahLovecat

Klaus

TRAAMS by TRAAMS   (England)

With ‘Klaus‘ clocking in at nearly 8 minutes long, TRAAMS release a punky shoe gaze track that also dips it’s hands into grunge. The first 10 or so seconds are heavy and dense, it sends a shockwave through your system and makes you realize that everything you have been listening to is just a bit too on the light side. Sometimes I think I flood my brain a little too much with songs of romance or weepy afternoons. TRAAMS gave me a little wake up call and I realized that sometimes you need a little darkness. So I’ll embrace it by way of ‘Klaus’. @LeahLovecat

Heaven

heaven by ccbaxter   (Basingstoke, England) *

“Trip-hop is dead” is exactly what someone said to me when I put on ‘Book’, the opening track from heaven, the debut ccbaxter bandcamp release.  And to some extent that statement is true,  but the genre is not really dead, it’s merely asleep- starved for talent, the next Portishead or Massive Attack.  Heaven is hit or miss providing tracks that mingle perfectly between traditional textures and progressive framing and others that seem too thought out and serious for their own good.  However, the good and the over-the-top together, ccbaxter has put forth an interesting album that dances softly in an sensual procession focused on a melodic purity that’s rare, these days.  @Dingusonmusic

Shorter Moods

Shorter Moods by Seedge   (Bristol, Britain)

The electronic atmosphere construction as built by Seedge is a unique and inviting structure that blends largely textural patterns into eachother seamlessly and seemingly without effort.  The blissful negotiation of the space as it unfolds is as encouraging as the womblike environment being created as a whole.  As pieces fit together on Shorter Moods, the listener catches a brief glimpse into the future of diy electronica; an amorphous incarnation of nurturing sounds.  [Free Download]  @Dingusonmusic

Tertiary

Tertiary by The Prisoner Of Mars   (England)

It’s not too often that I find myself at a loss of words when I’m writing about an album. Sometimes I have a little trouble placing the words in the right position but I feel as if I’m tongue tied…or rather, hand tied? Tertiary is such a great album. I can see myself choosing it as the soundtrack to my day, downloading it and playing it as I wander about. Tertiary is completely self penned, produced and recorded, another reason why I love it so much. The Prisoner Of Mars leaves it to us what we wish to do with it. I told you my plan, now make your own, Lovecat

Low Sun EP

Low Sun EP by Swarms   (Bristol, England)

Swarms were an absolutely fantastic choice to wind down my evening. Last night I was sitting down, still feeling bleh, and I happened upon Swarms Low Sun EP. Swarms have this way of making you feel completely peaceful. Their ambient feel is soothing and within the course of about 15 minutes, you’re resting easy. Sometimes you’re in the mood for something loud and aggressive but for when you’re not, I think Swarms are the perfect alternative. Lovecat

Jigsaw Mixtape

‘Jigsaw Mixtape’ by MyM   (December 25, 2011) *

Forcing a classic rock structure into a dance aesthetic might be the most brilliant thing MyM does on this introductory single, but for every ounce of fresh motivation that oozes out of this energetic track there is the stark undertone of a wonderful singing voice.  Something bizarre reminds me of Bloc Party, but I know thats a stretch.
