Deadfile

1621487920-1Deadfile by Deadfile   (Athens, Greece)

I believe the single ‘Consulting Maps That Lie‘ has gotten a first look on Dingus already, but this full EP from Deadfile is just far too superb to pass over without some consideration. The 7 minute and 53 second opening track, ‘This Hollowed Land‘ is mystical, as if emerging from the fog and thick low hanging trees of the swamps of the bayou. As you slip weightlessly up to the decrepit wooded dock, you are drawn from the old rickety row boat out into the heavy fog, drifting away, joining the other lost and forgotten souls waiting here in the mist, forever. @TheSnakeRecords

Summer Songs

2336003623-1Summer Songs by Four Eyes   (Athens, Georgia)

A very sweet sounding lady was given a Ukulele for her birthday, she has a wonderful talent for it, it reminds me of someone I hold dear to my own home and heart. She writes simple pops songs about the love, and the world, and the life, and things, and things, and things. It is lovely music for sitting in a sun-room and watching the rain pitter-patter all around and down making that soft calming rain like sound. @TheSnakeRecords

You Are The Real Monster

1605774435-1You Are The Real Monster by Mad Axes   (Athens, Georgia)

A bit of southern drawl, some serious attitude, and disrespect, meet Mad Axes. Part Danger Mouse some MF Doom and also a little Madvillian. It is rap in the the works, but with all sorts of possibilities. Something about the darkness, and the slop, and the slurry, slippery blending of words attracts me to this. There is sexy here, a hip hop club, dark red, smoky and packed full of grinding, deliriously wasted bodies. @TheSnakeRecords

Bob Dylan Is A-Ok

3713802506-1Bob Dylan Is A-Ok by Outer Spaces   (Athens, Georgia)

I just couldn’t resist. It is an interesting single still. A Chick. Guitars. Folk. Subtle Percussion. Everything; Obviously. @TheSnakeRecords

Words

2413755375-1Words by Christos Theodorou   (Athens, Greece)

It is rather hard to tell whether the effect of old grand elegance was specifically intentional in the recording style or if it was a happy accident of diy, but the hiss and the buzz and the drawn out impassioned breadth of the piano styling tears deep at your heart.

A lost love reunited in a passionate evening of entanglement, possession, and revivalism. @TheSnakeRecords

The Rodney Kings EP

The Rodney Kings EP by The Rodney Kings   (Athens, Georgia)

I’ll mess you up, man. No really, I will. At least I feel like a tough chick when I listen to this. The Rodney Kings EP is fuzzy garage punk bottled in angst and fueled by zombies and burgers and chicks and booze. I couldn’t find a more perfect reason to rock. @LeahLovecat

Consulting Maps That Lie

‘Consulting Maps That Lie’ by Deadfile   (Athens, Greece)

The storm is over. People go outside. The sun is almost blinding. Something resembling Eno’s Music For Airports leaks into the open air. Strings join the mix, elevating the sound to total beauty. The sequences of numbers being stated get absorbed into the song’s rhythmic texture.

Suddenly, a tremolo-picked, reverb-drenched guitar swells into being. In this perfect moment, you are at peace. @Solidusonmusic

Weekends

Weekends by pacificUV   (Athens, Georgia)

pacificUV have released quite an interesting album. Weekends is so musicially vivid and interesting, I found myself in awe as I listened. They have mixed and blended so many styles together that the product that comes raging through your speakers is such a dream to hear. Your ears never get tired, they never have a chance to get used to a certain ‘sound’. Weekends is experimental but with purpose and reason. pacificUV seem to understand the balance that is needed for an album that is so active and ingenious. They have beautifully entwined so much sound and emotion into their album that they make it seem as if it’s normal to be this intricate. Coming of Age

‘Coming of Age’ by Avidd   (Athens, Georgia)

Since starting this DIY blog, nearly a full year ago, Avidd has wormed his way into my heart with electronic poise and stature.  Each single released on the artists bandcamp/soundcloud is another foray into his sound trails, pushing personal limits and growing maturely.  More than just a series of synths and beats, ‘Coming of Age‘ disguises itself in the electronic veil while profiteering on clean expectations gone sour.  Dingus

I Do Know How You Feel EP

I Do Know How You Feel EP by The Boy Besides   (April 1, 2012)

I Do Know How You Feel, the declarative statement from Grecian producer The Boy Besides is a departure from his disorienting precedent that welcomes a more sensible format, something you can nod your head too.  And with lines like: “I like dogs, better than men, and cats better than dogs, and myself best of all, drunk in my underwear, looking out the window.” – well, I’ll keep listening.
