Fox Tales {Creature Comfort}

a1413404313_10Fox Tales by Creature Comfort   (Nashville, Tennessee)

This is a little sweeter than the stuff I’m used to but everyone can do with a little sweet every now and then. There is a calm cool about Fox Tales that draws you in. Perhaps it’s the use of tambourines or indulgent guitars but whatever it is, its there and its beautiful. Maybe we don’t always need garage rock and Creature Comfort have given us an example of what else we should be listening to. @LeahLovecat

Float! {Music for People}

a3261117997_2Float! by Music For People   (Atlanta, Georgia)

This is one of those albums I would love to post every track from, it is truly stellar. Unique, immersive, experiential, experimental, strange, lovely. Stumbled across this one during a frustrating hunt about, then I smiled. Some may have noticed this album is quite dated, 2006 to be specific, but I couldn’t help myself, if nobodies heard it yet, it ain’t old so hush now. Contacted producer Mikey Johnson, will keep ya’ll posted. @dingusrecords

Hot Tub Hoagie Boys {Bummers}

297053_493133910747973_903029961_nHot Tub Hoagie Boys by Bummers   (Columbus, Ohio)

Hot Tub Hoagie Boys comes to us from Columbus based Bummers. It’s beachy garage rock that sounds crisp and ready for sun exposure.As I listen more it seems as if the band have a bit of an Oasis influence. I can totally hear that style mixed in with a more fuzzy vibe. This isn’t something to pass up. Its perfected garage rock and it remains exceedingly cool. @LeahLovecat

Slow & Close {Mezzanine Swimmers}

a1610025872_10Slow & Close by Mezzanine Swimmers   (New York, New York)

Today’s a drone day- it’s dreary here in New York City, I’m sitting shirtless in the Bronx, smoking a bowl and having my eardrums assaulted by Mezzanine Swimmers. So it’s no wonder Slow & Close is coming out of NYC since so much of is seems designed for a long subway ride.  There’s a nice mix of acoustics (which are often dripping wet in reverb) and electronics where the shuffle creates the melodic movement that acts like a cloud, masking structural organization and obscuring harmonic clarity.  @Dingusonmusic

तद्भव {DIMENSIONS}

a0971264048_10तद्भव by DIMENSIONS   (Brooklyn, New York)

Brooklyn’s very own DIMENSIONS was a band that slipped through my radar for the past year while their combination of inspired ambiance and droning synths evolved organically.   तद्भव is the title of their most recent dual single- where each track title provides more of anthropomorphized manifesto for its growth than a witty insights (‘Folded Moments‘ and ‘Born of That‘).  Though at the end of the day, a band like DIMENSIONS is only ever meant for a niche audience and when I say meant, I feel as if im talking about fate. deBonton Grab Bag {Various Artists}

a1250188870_2deBonton Grab Bag by Various Artists   (Paris, France)

Here is a collection of strange fun poppy club music from Paris. The collection is brought to you by deBonton, an entity putting out great dance music straight from a city that does that shit right. Their manifesto is fantastic, “deBonton is a world of stupid honest nudity”, they believe that “There’s no victory ceremony at the end of this shit. So live naïve and live now. Cause magic’s real.” It is always great to find a group who has a beautiful and clear direction for the future, these guys are one of em, check it. @dingusrecords

High & Tight {Primitive Hearts}

2211467958-1High & Tight by Primitive Hearts   (Oakland, California)

With an album cover looking like it came straight out of Ghost World , Primitive Hearts have truly released a little piece of magic. High & Tight is California garage rock pounding straight from your speakers and it’s not to be taken lightly. Please, cool your jets and take the time out of your “busy” schedule to listen to this album in full. It deserves your undivided attention. @LeahLovecat

Vacant Admiral EP [Grey Visions]

a2731981980_10Vacant Admiral EP by Grey Visions   (Newark, New Jersey)

Jack Phinney is back as Grey Visions while taking time between Jean Jackets sets to deliver the Vacant Admiral EP, another delicate acoustic album that relies on the clever layering of parts.  The ethereal capacity of the album is something that’s always been present in Phinney’s work- though it seems to come more fully into clarity with this release. [Free Download] @Dingusonmusic

Elephant Stone

726638096-1Elephant Stone by Elephant Stone   (Montreal, Canada)

Elephant Stone’s self titled album is made up of pop and rock, summer rays and ice cream cones. It’s the stuff you wish for when you think of the hazy days that wait for you. June, July and August are going to be filled with the sounds of Elephant Stone, a sort of updated version of The Shins, if you may. It’s about time someone decided to give this genre an upgrade. @LeahLovecat

Asymmetrical World [Coatle]

3045385278-1Asymmetrical World by Coatle   (London, England)

Sometimes when I listen to a band the thought of “wow, that was a really tight recording” pops into my head. That happened while I was listening to Asymmetrical World. Every track is just so on the spot and beautiful. There is a really nice harmony between garage rock and electro/power pop that makes Coatle quite the commodity. Its rare to find a band that does this combination well but when you do, its important to spread their music like wildfire. [Free Download] @LeahLovecat
