Nathan Jones is Dead by Ghost Pal (Brooklyn, New York) *
There’s been a lot of fuss over DIY patriarch Oliver Ignatius’ bedroom soul concoction Nathan Jones is Dead. It is indeed Ghost Pal’s first official LP release, a concept album, and by all means the most anticipated recording in the great state of New York this year. To do anything other than be honest with you in this post would be obvious. Nathan Jones is Dead is deep, it’s obviously deep. Obviously far deeper than I can dare to tred after only my fifth listen. What I can do, is pick some of my favs, so listen up. If Ghost Pal is a band you’ve never heard of, get on board before all this shit we’re doing is mainstream in a few years and it’s not cool anymore. To the boys down at Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen, each and every one, I salute you. To the rest of you, if you want my actual thoughts on the record come talk to me about it. I bartend at Muchmore’s (n9 + havemeyer) every weekend and I’d rather lecture you one at a time. Or, I don’t know, listen to it and form your own opinion. Either way, Ignatius and his motley crew have surpassed their inspirations and their idols, as they slide out, feet first, head up, crushing the tailbone- only to hit the hospital floor bloody and crying. @Dingusonmusic
