Animal Love Match by Cancel The Astronauts (Edinburgh, Scotland)
As some are aware, Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and as such is home to such sonically aggravating events as the bagpipes and the yells of the intoxicated. What most people do not (and should) know about Edinburgh is that the city cranks out some serious pop bands. Case in point, the band Cancel The Astronauts who come out of your shitty computer speakers like an ink wash of tone, spilling everywhere and creating the best possible kind of mess. As Americans, we like to think we own the concept of the “wall of sound” as created by part-time producer and full-time Sideshow Bob impersonator Phil Spector but these boys make him look minimalist by comparison. This title track is equal parts lulling and raucous, pretty and grimy and at the same time an unmistakeable pop tune. Keep your eye on these guys and be sure to listen to the whole record while it streams free on Bandcamp, and be sure to pick it up on its official release date of September 17th.
