And Now, For Something Completely Different

I wanted to stop for a moment from my regular onslaught of posts to thank everyone, as I did on the facebook a few days ago.  To all the bands across the globe, who spend their dedicated time and energy on these underfunded, underappreciated DIY projects.  Rest assured, we are in the infantile stages of a cultural, global shift, and one day, someone will look back on your work and realize how ahead of the time your artistic preconceptions truly are.  Make an effort to get your work onto an analog platform, digital is so fragile.  Thank you to the readers, without your support, we’re all just playing music for ourselves, which we don’t mind either, but you certainly makes us smile on a daily basis.  It is an honor to be one of the hundreds of blogs, working hard, daily, to shed light on one of the few artistic movements that is completely disassociated from business (in individual birth, at least).  The international DIY scene will one day be the gene pool for corporate (if they last) discovery, insemination and integration and , and those who composed most purely, will be rewarded respectively.

It is now the time, after this heartfelt moment, to ask for your support.  If you believe in what I’m saying, I then urge you to take the minute to share our site on your social media, or maybe with your friends in real life…  It would mean the world to me, as well as the bands you come here to see.

Thank you,

Dingus

Love EP

Love EP by Koloah   (March 12, 2012) *

When Edinburgh based producer DFRNT makes decissions for his netlabel, Cut, he makes them flawlessly.  Never has a sub-par product come out of this dub-dance powerhouse.  Now we get the Love EP by Koloah.  A transverse take on the club extending from heavy euro-rave influence, but somewhat controlled and precise.  Never losing pace, the three track EP make it hard to sit still, as it should, and reminds you of anything but your cubicle.

A quote from the label: “Started in January 2011 by DFRNT, Cut is a netlabel providing free music with an emphasis on quality. Our aim is to show you that free music can be as valued and highly regarded as any other.”

Our Wake / Memorand

Our Wake / Memorand by Ouisa Hound   (March 5, 2012) *

The latest two-track from Joseph Randolph, mastermind behind experimental composition unit, Ouisa Hound, conjures memories of heaven.  In one way, this piece is what a more reserved, classical Animal Collective might produce.  Compositions built on synchronized loops- with a traditional tone and lush atmosphere, for a complete change of pace.  Our Wake/Memorand takes advantage of saturation in a completely original way, using it to appear distant  and detached rather than affected.

These Years on a Boat

These Years on a Boat by Fairweather Friends   (February 4, 2012) *

Opening with a shuffle is a pretty daring move these days.  Done incorrectly, you’ll easily look like a fool.  But, the way that Fairweather Friends combines the jam-life-force of Wilco with the indie-outrage of soft-core, post Good News, Modest Mouse makes for a classy act.  However, none of which I just described applies at all to the linguistic qualities of the band, that, within itself, has its own bold sound.
