Cowboys In The Void/Penobska Oakwalk by Quilt (March 1, 2011)
Before I go off on a tangent about how Quilt’s upcoming record release show at Glasslands is the same night as the screening of the Jay Reatard documentary (it’s dumb), I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the righteousness that was their last release: “Cowboys in the Void/Penobska Oakwalk (Single).” You know when you hear an album and immediately Google Map your nearest Radio Shack so you can buy a cassette player in order to listen to said album? Yeah. One part Os Mutantes, a little dash of old country, and a whole lotta too-cool-for-school/too-smart-for-school attitude (“Language deflated the zeppelin of the conscious;” what does that even mean?) sets this band up for an inevitable future as somebodies and hopefully some more convenient shows in the city.
